Sharing Stories of Opportunities & Challenges for Diversifying Appalachia's Economy & Renewing Her Communities
Collaboration is Key To Elkhorn City Eco-Tourism
December 3, 2015
Elkhorn City, nestled on the banks of the Russell Fork River and just down the mountain from Breaks Interstate Park on the Kentucky-Virginia border, was once a thriving tourist town as well as a railroad hub. Tim Belcher and Steve Ruth, volunteers with the Elkhorn City Area Heritage Council, and Stephanie Richards from Artists Collaborative Theater and Pike County Extension Service, tell this story of a community using its natural and cultural assets to rebuild its economy around ecotourism and the arts.
